Saying Goodbye to the 2026 Olympics

Saying Goodbye to the 2026 Olympics
By Hannah Ballowe

The 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony took place yesterday, February 22nd, at 2:30pm EST/9:00pm local time. And with the final festivities in Verona Arena, Milano Cortina closed the chapter on yet another phenomenal Olympic Games.

To keep the Olympic Spirit rolling, here are our highlights from the second week of competition.

  1. Team USA triumphs. The USA Women’s hockey team fought to the very last second (and beyond) to defeat Team Canada in thrilling overtime. It was only the third time in history that Team USA has been crowned Olympic champions in women’s hockey.

  2. Breaking records—and setting them straight. Team China freeskier Eileen Gu became the most decorated Olympic women’s freeskier of all time, winning one Gold medal and two Silver medals at this year’s Games. But it was her interview that went viral. The Stanford student, model, and Olympic champion set the record straight when asked if she felt like winning silver was akin to “losing gold,” showing young women everywhere how to handle criticism with poise.

  3. Winning on her own terms. 20-year old American figure-skater Alysa Liu won Gold this year, securing America’s first Olympic figure-skating medal in 20 years. Her story is the best comeback story in sports right now—she retired from the sport at age 16, citing burnout, and came back to win Olympic Gold on her terms, with her choreography, her music, her costumes, and her passion.
